Turn and face

the strange,
ch-ch-changes

Hunky Dory Records, a beloved local vinyl shop with locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Durham, NC, was facing a brand identity stuck in the past—and not in the cool, nostalgic way. Their website was outdated and content updates required a third-party developer, slowing them down. On top of that, they were preparing for a move and needed a full redesign of their in-store experience. It was time to bring the brand into the modern vinyl revival era while honoring its mid-century roots.

01. IDENTITY

A brand-new logo and identity that balances retro charm with modern clarity.

02. WEBSITE

A self-managed website that boosted traffic and made promotions a breeze.

03. MERCH

Merch that turns heads—and turns customers into walking brand ambassadors.

04. INTERIOR

A store layout that makes crate-digging an experience, not just a transaction.

The Identity

As a lifelong vinyl collector and music lover, this project hit all the right notes for me. We started by refreshing the logo—stripping it back to something simple, iconic, and scalable. The new mark was inspired by the physical act of pulling a record out of its sleeve—that satisfying reveal, that sense of anticipation. We wanted the logo to echo that same energy: bold, streamlined, and full of motion. The final design channels vintage record label aesthetics with a modern edge, and works effortlessly across merch, packaging, signage, and more.

A brand identity stuck in the past—and not in the cool, nostalgic way.

Inspired by the past,
made for today.

We cranked the volume on merch: t-shirts, totes, pins, patches, and signage—ditching the safe stuff for a look that screams rock-and-roll. Bold colors, gritty textures, and layouts that gave the collection an edge that’s pure rock and roll. This wasn’t about playing it safe. It was about building a merch line that doubles as a backstage pass to the brand—loud, rebellious, and unmistakably cool.

In the spirit of

ROCK

&ROLL

And for the new store? We rolled out a complete environmental design strategy—murals, signage, artwork, and layout—to turn their new space into a music lover’s haven. Bold graphics, directional flow, and a vibe that says "dig in." A brand that embodies the spirit of rock and roll.

The Website

Next, I designed a fresh, new website that the Hunky Dory team could easily update in-house. No more waiting on developers. Just a clean, modern interface that made content updates fast and intuitive. It puts the spotlight on what matters most: the music, the community, and the experience of the brand.
